The lavender blue Doritaenopsis Kenneth Schubert is an epiphytic growing, primary or intergeneric orchid hybrid, a crossing between the species orchids Doritis pulcherrima (seed parent) and Phalaenopsis violacea (pollen parent).

The hybrid has been registered with the Royal Horticultural Society in the year 1963 by Clarelen Orchids, an orchid nursery in Wisconsin, USA. The slightly fragrant flowers get a size of about 3 cm. Flowering season: Summer. The orchid hybrid is considered as an easy to grow orchid and requires a warm to hot, humid environment. There is still a big fuzz about the correct name. The nothogenus Doritaenopsis shouldn`t exist anymore, as the genus Doritis has been switched over to Phalaenopsis. It was a backwards and forwards over the last centuries. Some botanists divide the orchid genera Doritis and Phalaenopsis, others include Doritis orchids in the Phalaenopsis genus. As Doritaenopsis Kenneth Schubert has been registered and accepted under that name, at least for us and many horticulturists the name will not be challenged.
