Cattleya x hardyana is an epiphytic growing, pink-dark-red flowered, natural orchid hybrid, a crossing between Cattleya dowiana (seed parent) and Cattleya warscewiczii (pollen parent). The showy, fragrant flowers get a size of about 15 cm in diameter. Flowering period: August. In addition to the natural hybrid, there are a few manmade Hardyana hybrids, as Cattleya (synonym: Laeliocattleya) Hardyana (1895) a crossing between C. warscewiczii and C. purpurata or Cattleya Hardyana (1899) a hybrid from C. aclandiae and C. coccinea, both developed and registered with the Royal Horticultural Society by George Hardy,
an English orchid enthusiast and breeder.

can be recommended for orchid beginners.
