Epidendrum ciliare L. 1759 (Coilostylis ciliaris (L.)Withner & P.A.Harding 2004) is an epiphytic, occassionally lithophytic growing orchid species, native to Central- and South America and the Caribbean Islands. Inflorescences of the medium to large sized orchid get lengths of about 30 cm and carry up to 6 greenish flowers. Flowers get a size of up to 17 cm across and are fragrant with a sweet and heavy perfume, which is strongest at evening and night time, as this Epidendrum orchid species is pollinated by moth. A while ago, sources claimed , that the accepted and widely known, botanical name Epidendrum ciliare has been switched over in the year 2004 to Coilostylis ciliaris. Now in 2014, all we could find out is, that the name Coilostylis ciliaris is just accepted as a synonym.
