Paphiopedilum parishii

Paphiopedilum parishii (Rchb. f.) Stein 1892 is an epiphytic, occassionally terrestrial or lithophytic growing lady slipper orchid species, native to India (Assam), Myanmar (formerly Burma), Thailand and South China (Yunnan). The natural habitat of the rare lady slipper orichd is at altitudes from 1200-2200 meters. Paphiopedilum parishii has been named in honor to Reverend Charles Samuel Pollock Parish (1822-1897), an Anglican missionary and plant collector in Burma, who discovered the tropical orchid species. The hairy inflorescences reach lehgths up to 50 cm and carry up to 12 flowers.


Flowers get a length of 12-14 cm and a width of 9-11 cm. Flowering period: Summer. Paphiopedilum parishii orchids are protected by CITES Appendix I (threatened with extinction, trade only in exceptional circumstances). The lady slipper orchid requires intermediate to warm temperatures and moderate bright light or deep shade. Waterings and temperatures should be restricted
during the winter rest.
