Paphiopedilum sukhakulii Schoser & Senghas 1965 is a terrestrial growing lady slipper orchid species, native to North-East Thailand (Isaan) and has been named in honour to the Thai orchid collector and manager of the Bangkrabue Nursery in Nakhon Pathom, near Bangkok, Prasong Sukhakul.


The lady slipper orchid beauty is found in evergreen forests up to altitudes of 1500 m. In Thailand Paphiopedilum sukhakulii orchids are called Rong Thao Nari Pik Maleng Po or Rong Thao Nari Sukhakun. Flowers can reach a size of about 10 - 14 cm width. The single flowered, erect inflorescences reach lengths up to 25 cm. Flowering period: August - October. Paphiopedilum sukhakulii orchids are protected by CITES Appendix I (threatened with extinction, trade only in exceptional circumstances). The terrestrial orchid (ground orchid) requires a warm - hot, humid climate and moderate bright light. Waterings and temperatures should be decreased during the winter rest to induce flowering.
