Phalaenopsis Golden Beauty

11/01/2014

Phalaenopsis Golden Beauty is an epiphytic growing moth orchid cultivar, a crossing between the hybrid Phalaenopsis Paifang’s Auckland (seed parent) and the species orchid Phalaenopsis amboinensis (pollen parent). Phalaenopsis Golden Beauty has been registered with the Royal Horticultural Society in the year 1995 by J.& I.Sellés. The long, branched inflorescences carry about 10-12 creamy colored flowers. The long-lasting, fragrant flowers with a deep burgundy-red lip get a size of about 7-8 cm in diameter. Flowering period: with good conditions nearly all arond the year, with a peak in winter. Even if all flowers are withered, don`t cut inflorescences away, until they are completely dried out. The same inflorescences may rebloom several times.Compared with Phalaenopsis species orchids, which are considered as quite difficult to care, the large-flowered, showy Phalaenopsis hybrids are easy to grow and can be recommended to orchid beginners.

Phalaenopsis orchids require warm temperatures, moderate light or partial shade and a well drained potting medium. Plants should be kept humid, but not sogging wet. The potting medium should be allowed to dry out slightly between waterings. If it´s necessary to repot a Phalaenopsis orchid, it should be done whilst the plant isn´t in bloom.
