Dendrochilum Orchids
The Dendrochilum genus, established by German-Dutch botanist Karl Ludwig Blume in the year 1825, contains about 150 epiphytic, lithophytic and a few terrestrial growing species. Dendrochilum orchids are native to South East Asia, from Myanmar (formerly Burma) to the Philippines and New Guinea, with the main range on the Malay Archipelago and the Philippines. Significant for Dendrochilum orchids are lots of miniature sized, often fragrant, star-shaped flowers, born on erect or arching inflorescences. The natural habitat are higher elevations of humid rainforests with intermediate to warm temperatures. The abbreviation in horticultural trade is: Ddc.
Dendrobium Candy Stripe is an epiphytic growing, multiple generation orchid hybrid, a crossing between the hybrids Dendrobium Dianne McFarlane (seed parent) and Dendrobium Margaret Joan Fell (pollen parent).
